Due to continuing load issues with the Tranquility cluster, we will take Tranquility offline temporarily at 24:00 UTC. We anticipate Tranquility's return to service at 00:15 UTC.
Please note: we will close other threads regarding this scheduled downtime and ask that you keep your posts in this thread.

"...and two bits" - Jud, Oklahoma.
24:00 is a different way of saying 00:00 or midnight.

Originally by: CCP Fallout Due to a poorly set up hardware system, our insistence on using outdated db constructs and over 600000 lines of poorly written code, we are suffering from continuing load issues with the Tranquility cluster, we will take Tranquility offline temporarily at 24:00 UTC 18/08/2010. We anticipate Tranquility's return to service some time after 00:15 UTC 24/12/2010.
Please note: we do not appreciate customer feedback and will close threads regarding this un-scheduled downtime and ask that you keep your posts in your head.
I see what you did there.

Originally by: JackofWarr So why not wait till DT to do this stuff? Perhaps postpone dust and get eve to actually work properly. I know when i worked at Electronic Arts they did a way better job finding the problems and getting a solution. Is this restart a solution or a "lets put it off bye restarting it"? Have a very nice day- Jack
The CPU loads were heavy enough on several nodes where it was necessary to restart services now. Additionally, we are working on a number of issues regarding Tranquility stability, lag, and the like, as is indicated by several blogs we recently published. More blogs of this nature will be published over the next week, at least one per day. They are extremely specific in the work that we are doing and the detailing the myriad findings.

It's not shackles that we use. It's duct tape.

To be fair to CCP tranquility was back up at 00.26 UTC. Thus they have followed through with a very high level of accuracy with their original intent.
Appreciated ;)
One of the proxy's is being a very bad boy. Moar duct tape may be needed.
(Actually, yes, one of the proxy's is not playing nicely, hence the delays. Sorry about this guys).

Initial post updated with more information about the return-to-service delay. We should be back in our spaceships at 01:00 UTC. Atomic cocktails to be served shortly after by the Fallout Failboat Floosies :D

Originally by: Keith Deteisrich When I try to log in it says "The cluster is not currently accepting connections".
How often does this happen? I'm a sort-of new player and would like to know if this is very frequent. Thanks.
That indicates that the server is in what we call "VIP" mode. It's a time when our engineers look at the myriad settings, proxies, hardware and make sure that everything is working okay. When they are assured that Tranquility will play nicely with capsuleers, they take it out of VIP mode and open the server to the masses.
VIP mode is generally seen whenever Tranquility undergoes a reboot (e.g. server issues such as those experienced today that required a server reboot; daily downtimes, which normally take under one hour to complete). You will be seeing this when there are patches and expansions as well.

Looks like she's up. We'll be monitoring Tranquility closely to make sure everything is stable.
Fly safely!
